WARRINGTON Borough Transport will no longer be moving its depot to Slutchers Lane, the Warrington Guardian has learned.

Developers Maro told the bus company it no longer planned to incorporate the building of a bus depot for its 125-strong fleet in their plans for Centre Park.

The Warrington Guardian has also been told Maro's plans for 750 homes on the site did not find favour with planning officers at the borough council.

Maro put the provisional plans for residential development out to public consultation in July and said the application would be submitted by September or October.

One of the key elements was the conversion of Brian Bevan Island into a crossroads.

But no formal planning application has yet been submitted. The area already has traffic problems and Warrington has been streaking ahead of its housing targets.

A spokesman for Maro said: "We are completely committed to this proposal."

A council spokesman said: "The council is currently preparing an Area Action Plan for Arpley Meadows which will consider the impact of developments on the area.

"Matters relating to traffic, transport and regeneration benefits in particular need to be considered for this site, as well as other areas nearby.

"The more advanced this plan, the better the context for applications."
