A GAME of football on Valentine’s Day has led to a lifetime of happiness for George and Amy Wainwright.
The couple celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today, Thursday, 60 years after their wedding at Christ Church Latchford.
Amy said: “We met 65 years ago on Valentine’s Day when I went to see some people playing football and I was introduced by a friend of ours.
“He walked me to the bus stop and it progressed from there.”
Five years later they married on a typical spring day before heading off on honeymoon to Torquay.
George went back to his job on the railways after completing his national service before taking on a role in the police.
Amy worked at the Co-operative before taking time out to have her three children Stephen, Lynda and Gill.
The couple, from Woolston, held an afternoon tea party to celebrate the milestone.
And what advice would the couple, both aged 81, give to anyone about to tie the knot?
Amy said: “Never take each other for granted and look after one another.”
