DRIVERS are being reminded that the M6 from Croft and Lymm interchanges will be closed tonight as part of works to replace expansion joints on the Thelwall Viaduct.

The Highways Agency's £2.5 million project to replace the six bridge expansion joints started last night as new contraflow systems to keep four lanes running during the nine week scheme are being installed on the viaduct.

The second phase of that work will take place tonight and the road will be closed from 10pm to 5am.

The new contraflow system will be in operation from tomorrow with 40mph speed limits on the road monitored by safety cameras.

A dedicated project page has been set up on the Highways Agency’s website at www.highways.gov.uk/roads/road-projects/m6-thelwall-viaduct
