A HAIR salon was in the pink to help raise awareness and funds for St Rocco’s Hospice as part of its annual fundraiser.

Callaghan’s hairdressers, on Sankey Street, hosted the first Starlight Friday - new for this year’s Starlight Walk.

The idea is to get hairdressers across the borough to don pink T-shirts and fly the flag to help promote the walk every Friday in the run up to the event.

John Collins, one of the managers at Callaghan’s, said: “we are very happy to be supporting our local hospice as we know what a great cause St Rocco’s is.”

This year’s Starlight Walk takes place on Friday, June 20 from Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub and will see thousands of women dressed in pink all take to the streets of the town for a midnight walk.

Anyone wanting to take part can choose between a six mile or 13 mile route which is marshalled throughout taking in areas around the town centre.

During the last eight years, 12,000 women have taken part and raised £1.5 million for St Rocco’s Hospice A new theme is in place for 2014 - ‘A Walk to Remember’, Lauren Tilston, from St Rocco’s, said: “Whether you are walking in memory of a loved one or a fun walk with friends or family - this is sure to be a Walk to Remember.”
