A CYCLIST injured in a crash on Tuesday has died in hospital.
Terry Brown, aged 47, from Great Sankey was injured following the accident, which police say was a hit and run, at 6.40am on Tuesday on Warrington Road in Bold Heath.
He died in Aintree University Hospital in Fazakerley where he was taken after the crash in which he suffered a serious head injury.
It is understood Mr Brown was a member of North Cheshire Clarion Cycling Club.
In a statement on its website, the club said: “It is with great sadness that we have to report that one of our members, Terry Brown, sadly passed away yesterday evening with his family by his side as a result of injuries received in a hit and run incident earlier in the day.
“Terry was a passionate and committed cyclist who regularly commuted to work in Liverpool from the Great Sankey area as well as participated in weekend club runs and was a well liked member of North Cheshire Clarion who will be missed.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences go to his family at this sad time, rest in peace Terry.”
On Twitter the club added a minute’s silence will be held before rides done by members this weekend.
Officers say they have now arrested a 38-year-old man in Warrington on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He is currently being quizzed by police and enquiries are ongoing.
The road was closed for most of Tuesday while accident investigators worked.
