Warrington volunteers start mental health conversations as part of action day
10:30am Tuesday 11th February 2014 in News
VOLUNTEERS did their bit in the town last week as part of a national effort to stimulate a million conversations about mental health on ‘Time to Talk Day’.
Shoppers heading to Warrington Market were given cards with examples of what people can do to improve their mental health.
Market stall holders also displayed posters and a marquee run by volunteers and professionals was set up for people to talk in confidence.
The initiative was organised by Warrington Mental Health Forum, Mood Swings Network Warrington and Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group together with the council’s mental health outreach arts programme Creative Remedies.
Clr Pat Wright, the council’s executive board member for health and wellbeing and adult services, said: “We hope the event will encourage people to talk more openly to others about their own or their loved ones’ mental health.
“Talking is a really positive way to challenge stigma and discrimination.”
