Police warning over cash machine gang

A device recovered by police in Stockton Heath

First published in News

POLICE are warning residents to be careful when using cash points after devices designed to steal bank cards were found.

Officers say they believe a gang is targeting cash machines in the town.

Illegal devices have been removed from an ATM at Morrisons, London Road, Stockton Heath, and an ATM at the Co-op store on Holes Lane, Woolston.

Both were found by police on Wednesday.

Officers were alerted to another device at the same cash machine at Morrisons today, Friday, but investigated to find it was not suspicious.

Police say there are two types of technology used by criminals.

One is designed to steal the card, with the victim believing it has been swallowed.

When they leave to call their bank, the thief removes the device and steals the card.

The second type of machine reads and records card details, like expiry date and the security pin.

They can then be used to make purchases online.

Police say both devices are visibile and can be spotted before being used.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.

Can you not show two picture's of a cash machine; with one on and one without it on, to show the difference?

I agree Fedster, we really need to encourage migrants to mix with each other and ourselves like one big happy family. We need more shared activities so that we can break down barriers between our communities. With so many low cost airlines available it's unsurprising that our ATMs are being raided by criminals from across Europe. They're more like holiday-makers than immigrants I would suggest, in and out in a couple of days. Are we to shut the flood gates to tourists too? Anyhow, I agree with you..it's vital that all of us who are here legally to live, work, earn and pay taxes feel confident that our bank accounts are safe. Our friends from Eastern Europe who are playing such an important role in the Economic recovery of the UK need to be confident that they're wages aren't being stolen, as do you and I. Life is very rarely black and white Fedster. You take a simplistic view on many things and are highly tuned to your primitive mistrust of strangers. You display an almost child-like understanding of right and wrong. In many ways, I envy you.

But their wages are being stolen, Also their jobs, Because these people will work all day for a bowl of rice, The amount of jobs paying the minimum wage has increased ten fold since the flood gates were opened. You cant get a job on woolston grange unless you speak an east European language. The facts speak for themselves. I,m not against immigration as long as it is under control. At the moment it is a free for all and it is the local jobs market that is suffering. That's why people are turning against immigrants. They should,nt but they do.

Sounds like your beef is with the employers and not the employees old-codger. Tougher rules on working conditions and pay and fairer outcomes for all workers. If they pay £8 per hour and are still giving jobs to immigrant workers then something has gone seriously wrong

You may be right but most of the east Europeans work for an agency who also house them, Milliband said he is going to stop agencys from only employing foreign workers but Cameron cannot see past his nose when it comes to this problem, They may very well contribute to the economy but the unemployed could contribute if they could get jobs that have gone to foreigners. One foreign worker does not pay in enough to cover the JSA and housing benefit of a local unemployed man. The EU isn't worth being in, Employers are to blame as you quite rightly pointed out, They pay minimum wage and the tax payer has to top it up with working tax credits in order to have enough money to scrape by on. This country isn't ours anymore, It belongs to Brussels.

Where has my comment gone !?!

I asked yesterday if anyone knew WHICH cash machine at Morrisons it was on as there are 3 next to each other.

I also said that it would be helpful to know for people who had maybe used the machines there the day/week before it was found so they were aware.

Was I censored and removed for making a sensible comment rather than following on from some others ha ha ?

Reminds me of Oz and Neville in Auf wiedersehen pet. I think that British construction workers were useful to Germany in the 1980s and we didnt complain at the time about having the opportunity to work overseas. Did the world end for Germany in the way people on here are predicting? Why are things so different now? Last year the German government launched a £120 million campaign to entice our young people to work over there. It's surprising considering that ONS statistics find the UK on average 16% less productive per hour worked compared to the rest of the G7. I see membership of the EU as a great opportunity for British people and I'd swap Merkel's skills for Farage's any day of the week.

Reminds me of Oz and Neville in Auf wiedersehen pet. You want me to judge a person based on the opinions of her ancestors?!? You get worse Fedster, you really do. I can read Wikepedia too and I see that he was a prisoner of war aged 19 and released in 1948 when he became a man of the cloth. You need to put all that behind you, the world has moved on.
Her skills as a stateswoman are epic, she's got the right stuff
