LYMM: A LYMM fitness coach is helping people get in shape for Christmas with 30-minute workouts that burn 800 calories in a day.

Metafit is the latest new workout trend and Rachel Gravell, who runs Energised Fitness, is putting on two classes a week alongside her regular bootcamps.

The High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts last half an hour with different exercises in short blasts but are as effective as an hour-long jog.

Rachel, aged 38, explained: “It burns fat by working the big muscle groups and raising the metabolic rate at high intensity, but for short bursts with rest periods in between.

“This not only burns fat more effectively during the class but also carries on for the 24 hours that follow.

“It’s for all levels, and the idea is you push yourself as hard as you can, and you burn 300 calories in the class and up to 500 afterwards.

“So it’s a great way to get in shape for the Christmas party – or stop you feeling quite so guilty after a mince pie or glass of wine!”

n Classes are at 7am on Tuesday and Thursday at St Peter’s Church Hall at £4. Rachel is offering readers a free trial class too. E-mail rachel@energised-fitness.co.uk to find out more.
