Festive bin changes on the way in Warrington

Warrington Guardian: Festive bin changes on the way in Warrington Festive bin changes on the way in Warrington

BIN collections across the borough have been altered this year to make sure every household has their bin emptied during the festive period.

Clr David Keane, executive board member for environment, said: "We’ve re-scheduled the collections so that all residents will get their bins emptied at some point during the Christmas break.

"Your bins may be emptied a day earlier than usual, or a day later, but there will be a collection over the Christmas period.

"Our crews have been putting stickers on bins providing full information. You can also find this information at www.warrington.gov.uk/bins - just scroll down and click on the link to ‘Christmas bin collections’."

I'm really pleased that the binmen are not shutting down between Christmas and New Year this year. Common sense finally prevails.

Maybe the council would like to replace the small 120ltr black bins with 240ltr large black bins to help council tax payers manage their rubbish better, They did this with the blue bins and it helps with the recycling system.

I would have thought someone struggling with the fortnightly collections would have already considered this option. It is easy for someone to say produce less waste, but how do you know this persons family size or the steps they might already be taking? I am sure all of us have activities we could do better, without the need for someone pointing out the obvious. If you are that efficient with your waste, maybe people would appreciate tips and ideas that you use.

Since the collections changes, we have made changes in our house, but occasionally find we have filled our bins before collection day. Luckily, the tip is not too far for such situations. However, not everyone is as fortunate. Elderly people or those without transport could struggle.

Personally, i prefer my black bin over my blue bin as i find the black one absorbs more heat during the day so therefore warmer to sleep in at night!
