It was a close shave when eight head teachers from Warrington battled it out to win the much-converted title of bushiest and most stylish moustache during Movember.

The head teachers banished their razors to the bathroom cupboard for one whole month while they took part in the annual charity moustache event to raise money and awareness for male cancer.

Rising to the challenge was Ian Moss, from St Thomas’ Primary School, Dan Harding, from Stockton Heath Primary School, Stewart Quinn, from Westbrook Old Hall Primary School, Craig Burgess, from Appleton Thorn Primary School, Chris Metcalfe, from St Margaret’s Primary School, and Gary Cunningham, from Beamont Primary School.

But it was Keith Greenwood, from Broomfields Junior School, who snapped up the acclaimed title of bushiest ‘tache while Chris Shaw, from Bradshaw Primary School, picked up the award for most stylish moustache.

Appleton Thorn Primary School head teacher Craig, who organised the fan-‘tache-tic competition, said: “It is about putting a smile on people’s faces while raising money for a good cause.

“We have certainly made a few people laugh - especially the children.”

David Mowat MP for Warrington South was honoured with the task of judging the hil-hairy-ous competition and said he was looking for ‘volume’ and ‘originality’.

Mr Mowat said: “This is probably the most unusual competition I have ever judged. But it’s a bit of fun for the community and a great way to raise money for men’s health.”

Their tremendous ‘taches have raised more than £2,000 for the vital cause, which will fund research into prostate cancer.
