Skater wins contest to perform routine with TV professional

A GORSE Covert Primary School pupil’s ice skating dreams came true when she performed a routine with Dancing on Ice star Sylvain Longchambon.

Emily Severs won a competition to be part of a masterclass at Liverpool One’s Ice Festival ice rink.

The 11-year-old is a member of Altrincham synchronized ice skating team, Whizz Kids, and has been skating for two years.

She enjoyed 30 minutes on the ice under the cool instruction of the French ice dancer.

The youngster appeared in front of huge crowds as part of the official launch of Christmas in Liverpool.

Sylvain made an exclusive appearance with on and off-screen partner, Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria in Coronation Street.

Emily’s mum Gill Severs said: “Once she got over the nerves of performing in front of so many people she absolutely loved it.

“Sylvain was so gentle and kind with her and made her feel so comfortable, and she also had the Whizz Kids down there cheering her on.

“It was a fantastic evening and we were so well looked after by the Liverpool One staff. What a great opportunity it was and a memory for Emily to have.”

After her appearance on the ice, Emily was treated to Liverpool’s Lantern Parade and a series of pantomime displays with some of the city’s biggest stars.

The X Factor’s Ray Quinn, who will play Peter Pan at the Empire Theatre, entertained the crowds by singing Christmas classics.
