A SIGNING choir from the town are hitting the bright lights of an arena after securing themselves a spot with top artist Peter Gabriel.

Warrington British Sign Language Signing Choir will take part in the final night of his international tour at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester on Friday, October 25.

Penny Spiers, from the choir said: “We have been given an amazing opportunity to perform at the arena for Peter Gabriel’s Back to Front Tour.

“It was choir member Jeanette Hughes’ idea to get the choir on stage at the concert.

“She has been in contact with his tour manager since February and we got the green light in August.

“Since then we have been practicing practically every day and we’re so excited and honoured to be a part of this event and to raise Deaf Awareness.”

The tour has been on the road since last year and rolls into Manchester next week with the choir performing to a sold out audience on the night.

The signing choir is based at Warrington Deaf Centre and was reformed in 2011 with many of the original deaf members from when It was first formed 20 years ago.

It is made up of both hearing and deaf members and they practice every other Thursday at the Warrington Deaf Centre, on Wilson Patten Street.

All money raised from their performances goes towards providing equipment for the Warrington Deaf Centre and they also organise and pay for trips out for Warrington Deaf Club members.
