POLICE will be hunting for death drug PMA at Creamfields this weekend.

Officers say the ecstasy-like drug - linked to the death of Orford 16-year-old Ellie Jones - is likely to be seen at the dance music festival and that they are targetting dealers.

Jamie Thompson, of Cheshire Police’s drug unit, said: “PMA has been at most festivals this year.

“We know there is a chance it will be coming into Creamfields.

“We have a zero tolerance approach and that stands for whatever the drug is.

“It is important that people know where facilities are so that if they become ill, they can get to them.

“We kow there that people will bring drugs into Creamfields and there will be some particularly dangerous drugs.

“Our aim is to use 24 hour policing to make everyone as safe as possible.”

Paramethoxyamphetamine, sometimes called Dr Death, is a type of amphetamine that can be bought as pills or powder.

Users often mistake is for other drugs, which means they overdose, risking death.

It has been linked to several fatalities.

DC Thompson said advice was being taken from other forces to prevent any casualties.

Police in other parts of the country are carrying out warrants to seize drugs bound for the festival, while measures will also be enforced at the site in Daresbury.

“We are fortunate in that Creamfields is at the end of the summer so we can learn from festivals that have already taken place.

“We share intelligence with other police forces on what drugs are around and use proactive measures to stop drugs coming into Creamfields.

“There will be searches, dogs and amnesty bins to give people a second chance.

“Ninety nine per cent of people who go to Creamfields are there to have a good time.

“We want to help them do that.

“The best way to avoid meeting us is to not bring any drugs in the first place.”
