THE Peace Centre was painted red, yellow, green, blue and purple thanks to a team of volunteers from St Gregory’s Catholic High School.

The youngsters took part in a 60 minute makeover of all nine residential bedrooms within the centre on Peace Drive, Great Sankey to add a splash of fresh colour to the charity building.

The foundation and neighbouring school joined forces during St Greg’s ‘Peace week’ to coincide with the 20th anniversary year of the Warrington bombing.

Pupils and teachers worked together to come up with unique ideas, raise funds and undertake the makeover.

Rosemary Howard Rigby, new head teacher at the school from September 2013, said: “We have been exploring aspects of personal and social development including tolerance, respect and teamwork.

“Transforming the rooms at the peace centre supports the local community and we were undertaking many other activities during the week including guest speakers, cultivating our peace garden and sponsoring a child in another country.”

The school is also matching the pupils fundraising efforts with proceeds going towards supporting the Foundation for Peace.

Pam White, community fundraiser, said: “The school has come up with an innovative way of promoting social and emotional aspects of learning and raising money for our charity and it’s been great to see the newly decorated bedrooms.”
