WORK has started on controversial plans to build 25 new homes in Croft.

The former HMS Gosling camp, which closed its doors in 1959, will be restored by Elan Homes.

The new homes will be set within seven hectares of woodland containing public information boards about the area’s history and public open space.

Andrew Robertson, senior sales manager for Elan Homes in northern England, said: “The former HMS Gosling has been closed for more than 50 years so we’re delighted to be bringing the site back into good use.”

Residents complained about the bid to build on the land, saying it was inappropriate so close to the green belt in Croft.
