A BOROUGH councillor has called for action on Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft’s ‘deteriorating’ roads.

Clr Chris Vobe has written to Warrington Borough Council’s chief executive Steven Broomhead and assistant director Andy Farrall slamming the condition of the highways throughout the villages.

He says the number of potholes have increased and some long-awaited repairs are not happening.

Clr Vobe said: “It is very clear that the need for improvements to many of our roads is paramount.

“In Culcheth, the Newchurch and Hob Hey areas in particular have suffered from considerable deterioration over a period of time and little seems to have been done to rectify the situation. Common Lane is especially bad.

“In Croft there are areas of the village which have been flagged up with the authority on a number of occasions yet, despite assurances to the contrary, are still awaiting repairs. Lady Lane is an example of this.”

Clr Vobe has criticised the authority for revisiting its own repair work when newly-laid tarmac broke up and caused further damage.

“This does not represent good value for taxpayers’ money and needs to be reviewed,” the Labour councillor added.

The Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft ward member has also questioned the council’s policy of only fixing potholes of a certain depth.

He said: “Repairing only those of a certain depth presents the public with a surface just as uneven and represents considerable hazards to cyclists.”

A spokesman for Warrington Borough Council said: “All issues will be carefully considered and appropriate action taken in the borough wide review of the highways.”
