A LAP dancing club has been approved to open in the town centre on the same road as a nursery.

Delicious will be based on Legh Street and offers topless lap dancing, topless pole dancing and full nudity strip shows.

The Kids Planet Day Nursery is also situated on the same road, but Delicious owner Brian Walters, aged 35, said the club will only open after the nursery has closed.

Mr Walters, who lives in the town, said: “We don’t operate when any other businesses operate.

“We operate long after everyone else has gone home.

“Every town has got a lap dancing club - there’s nothing sleazy going on here.

“There won’t be naked women walking around.

“The club is going to have a nice, friendly, warm atmosphere.

“It’s up to people if they want to come in.

“We have done a lot of research and people want this in Warrington.

“We are going to work very strongly with the police and if the council has any questions then we are there to answer them.”

Warrington Borough Council approved a licence for the strip club at a Town Hall meeting last night.

According to the agenda, there were 25 objections to the application, from residents and Rev Stephen Kingsnorth.

A date has yet to be set for Delicious to open, but Mr Walters, who has 15 years experience in door security, says it will take around three weeks.

It will operate 8pm to 3am on weekdays and 7pm to 3am at the weekend, with around 10 jobs created for bar staff and security.

Richard Williams, of LR Law Licensing Solicitors, acted on behalf of Mr Walters.

He said: “We had quite a few residents who spoke up about it, because it’s a novel thing for the town.

“There was a limited amount of objection but in my experience of these things, opposition of lap dancing clubs can run to the thousands.

“Some people think that lap dancing is a seedy underworld activity but it’s pretty well regulated these days.

“There will be no advertising or girls stood outside and there will be door security at all times.”

“You could walk past and not even know it was there.”

Mr Williams added there had been no objections from residents on Bath Street next to the site, while the police had withdrawn opposition.
