A ‘BULLY’ who helped threaten a family and their three-year-old daughter with a machete before joy riding on a stolen motorbike has been jailed for 32 months.
Ryan Jarvis, aged 27, of Willis Street, was sentenced at Warrington Crown Court on Friday.
Judge David Hale said: “This all speaks of bullying - I’m the more powerful person here so I will do it.
“This man was forced, with a machete, to bend to the will of you, and he was hit and threatened.
“This was as bad an affray as you can get.”
Victim Sean Davies lives with partner Emma Cosgrove and their three-year-old daughter in Mortimer Avenue in Orford.
On September 29 last year Mr Davies returned home on his Peugeot motorbike.
Jarvis and co-accused Gary Barton had been drinking in a neighbouring house and demanded he lend them the bike so they could buy some ‘sniff’.
Barton, face covered with tights, brandished a machete and told him he would ‘chop him and his family up’ if he refused.
It was handed over with Jarvis, face covered with a hood, stashing the 15 inch blade down his trousers and riding pillion. Neither wore helmets.
“The bike was ridden off at speed, said Andrew Green, prosecuting.
“It was travelling horrendously fast.
“They were laughing and shouting “The bike was swerving from side to side and went on the pavement.”
Young children playing in the street had to dash out of the onrushing bike’s path.
Barton then lost control, crashing the motorcycle and suffering serious injuries.
Jarvis escaped unhurt and left the scene. He was arrested on October 1 and released on bail.
Two weeks later he called Mr Davies and attempted to threaten him into silence.
He said: “I’ll do jail and when I get out I’ll kill you.”
But Mr Davies was at Arpley Street police station during the phone call, and played the threats on loud speaker to officers.
Jarvis, who has previous convictions for assault, section 20 wounding, GBH and dangerous driving, was again arrested.
On January 25 at Warrington Crown Court he pleaded guilty to affray, aggravated vehicle taking and witness intimidation.
Michael Davies, defending, said Jarvis had borrowed the bike before and was ‘very drunk’ during the incident.
Jarvis was jailed for 32 months and banned from driving for two years. An eight year restraining order was also issued banning him from contacting Mr Davies or his family.
