AN ORFORD man who grew cannabis to deal has been jailed for 12 months.

Warrington Crown Court heard on Friday how Andrew Brandwood, aged 27, of 5 Ulverston Avenue, grew 24 plants worth more than £16,000.

When police searched the address on March 15 2011, they found that a bedroom had been set up with growing equipment to produce cannabis.

During his interview Brandwood claimed the plants were grown for his own use.

Brandwood currently ‘in the interim of employment and non employment’, according to Julian Linskill, defending.

He has 11 previous convictions for 14 offences, some of those were drug matters, the court heard.

Mr Linskill said: “I well remember in the magistrates court he was told to bring a toothbrush next time.

“He’s brought rather more than that.”

Recorder David Williams sentenced him to 12 months in prison.
