THERE was more bad news for the high street today as Blockbuster announced more store closures in the town and Golden Square clothes store Republic went into administration.

After calling in administrators in January, Blockbuster stores on School Brow in the town centre and in Westbrook centre follow the closure of the Stockton Heath store.

A spokesman could not confirm the number of employees at each store but added on average five members of staff work at each Blockbuster branch and will be made redundant.

Administrators announced an additional 164 stores were closing down across the country but the date of the Warrington closures is not yet known.

Fashion outlet Republic, based in Golden Square, also announced today they had gone into administration but shops would remain open for business while a new buyer is found.

It adds to a depressing start for many retailers in the town centre as HMV and camera store Jessops have also been closed down.
