Warrington HF Ramblers By Daphne Thomas The first walk of the year was on Saturday January 7 along the Wirral Way, which is a 12 mile linear walk along a disused railway track between Hooton station and West Kirby.

The walk follows the route of the old railway through Neston, Parkgate, Heswall, Thurstaston and Caldy to end at West Kirby.

We met at Hooton station at 9.30am and 29 members took part.

We stopped briefly at Hadlow Rd, which is an old station on the line which has been restored.

Then at Parkgate we came off the path to walk along the front. We were hoping to have lunch there but it was, to say the least, a bit too bracing. The wind was so cold at this point that nobody was even tempted with an ice-cream. We did manage to find somewhere a little more sheltered for lunch before returning to the track.

We stopped again at Thurstaston for afternoon refreshments and finally reached West Kirby at about 15:30 pm.

We returned to Hooton courtesy of Mersey Rail, changing trains in Birkenhead.

The next walk is on Wednesday January 18 around Walton, Moore and Hillcliffe and the next weekend walk is on Sunday January 22 to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
