OUR president welcomed 38 members and one visitor to the October meeting which was Members Day.

Following the singing of Jerusalem, Muriel Parker was thanked for the plant on the presidents table, which was later given to Ruth Houghton whose daughter had recently died.

The Members Day committee, lead by Jean Butters managed the rest of the meeting.

Guest speaker was John Norton who explained how in his retirement he firstly volunteered at Dunham Massey for the Educational Programme for schools ‘acting out’ characters from the Victorian era. This lead to him becoming an ‘extra’ in local films and TV commercials.

It was a fascinating insight into the time and expense involved in this field.

Jean Butters thanked John for his detailed account given in an enjoyable way.

She then presented Committee members with a gift to recognise their hard work during the year and branch officers were also given a table arrangement of roses.

We then enjoyed delicious cakes provided by Members Day Committee.

The competition for a wooden ornament drew in many varied items and the winners were: 1 Joan Gleave, 2 Yvonne Powell, 3 Maureen Whittaker.

Our next meeting is on November 20, 2.15pm at Grappenhall Community Centre and will be our AGM. The election of president and committee members will take place and a cheque will be presented to a St Rocco’s representative. There will be an exhibition of pillboxes.
