PRIESTLEY are heading up an end of year gig to celebrate the ‘Sound of Warrington’.

Lee Harman from Warrington Music [WAM] is hosting the free showcase at the Auction Rooms in Legh Street on December 16.

Also playing the night is singer-songwriter and former Padgate High student Kye Jones, alternative rockers 16 Jackals and indie trio The Capitals.

The concert will also mark the three-month countdown to the [WAM] Parr Hall show, headlined by Burtonwood’s Slydigs, to mark the grassroots music website’s fifth anniversary.

The folk and Americana-inspired Priestley, named after the college they met at, is the brainchild of actors Sam Allen, from Birchwood, and Matthew Morley, from Orford.

Matt has appeared in the film adaptations of Macbeth and War Horse while Sam was Johnny Depp’s double for Mortdecai.

Former Birchwood High student Sam said: “The band are thrilled to be headlining in their home town.

“It’s really important to us to support the music scene in Warrington.

“Over the years we have shared stages with some truly talented home grown artists and we hope to continue that tradition on December 16.

“We’ve taken some time off over September as a band, but have exciting plans for December including a few headline gigs and another new song to record in the studio.

“We’re absolutely chuffed to be collaborating with [WAM] again, which paves the way for getting all things Warrington music-related out there.”

Students from Priestley College will also be filming all four sets on the night.
