WANT an evening out like no other?
Try Tyburnia which is a cinema experience, live concert, improvised performance art piece and history lesson all in one.
Musicians have teamed up with filmmaker James Holcombe for the groundbreaking project. Holcombe’s challenging film is about Tyburn gallows in London. The site was used for public executions for more than 700 years and through this Holcombe explores the nature of punishment and charts a history of the UK.
Holcombe, whose work has been exhibited at the Serpentine Gallery and Tate Modern, is taking Tyburnia on tour and will use use six projectors and three screens to create a ‘director’s cut’ of the film for every venue he visits to make it more relevant to the area.
Meanwhile, the Dead Rat Orchestra will be creating a live film score for the project with some peculiar and rare folk songs. The soundtrack features songs composed by, or for, those condemned to ‘dance the Tyburn jig’ sang by Lisa Knapp .
Tyburnia is at Home in Manchester on July 25. Visit homemcr.org
