EASY-going pop-rock five-piece Selfish Lovers formed in 2008 and have since focussed on creating energetic pop music with a hint of something different.

With the help of The Beautiful South's Paul Heaton and lead singer Amy Bielizna's massive voice, the band, who are all based in Warrington, have attracted attention from a number of record labels in recent years including BRM Music and Animal Music.

In addition to front woman Amy, 26, the band is made up of songwriter, singer and guitarist Phil Bondon, 28, keyboard player and backing vocalist Kev Barry, 40, ex-Control drummer Martin Raynor, 35, on drums and backing vocals and new addition to the band, backing vocalist Tom, 26.

The band, who currently all work regular 9-5 jobs but say they are “striving to make a career out of music”, cite multiple influences, often depending on which member you speak to.

Frontwoman Amy, 26, says: “Our influences include Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, and a lot of Rod Stewart.

“I love Fleetwood Mac, our guitarist loves Oasis, and our drummer loves Keith Moon, so there's lots of influences going on.

“Our style is upbeat, easy listening, pop rock. We've been compared to The Beautiful South.”

Amy's love of performing began at Woolston Community High school, where she was a keen student of music.

Her passion for music grew and she went on to study classical music at Liverpool Hope University, where she began writing songs and collaborating with other musicians.

Since then her band has gone on to gain a wealth of live performing experience, having played at Manchester venues such as The Roadhouse and Night & Day Cafe as well as Warrington’s The Blue Bell pub.

Having performed at the Warrington Music Festival and Penn Festival in Buckinghamshire last year, the five-piece went on to support 90s pop rock trio Dodgy and now have plans to play at the Bridgnorth Music and Arts Festival in Shropshire later this year.

“We're a good solid band, and there aren't that many frontwomen around at the moment”, said Ms. Bielizna.

“We all work hard in our day-to-day jobs as well, so we're showing that you can work 9-5 and still be in a band”.
