A GRAMMY nominated DJ and producer will be throwing the first house music night in the history of the Parr Hall on April 15.

Todd Terry has teamed up with Warrington DJs James Glover and Josh Butler to headline what is hoped will become a regular event at the Palmyra Square venue. The 49-year-old grew up listening to European dance music records in Brooklyn.

He made a name for himself in 1988 in England cutting underground tracks like A Day In The Life, Weekend and Can You Party under monikers such as the Todd Terry Project, House Of Gypsies, and Royal House.

In the mid 90s, the Ministry of Sound’s UK label released A Day In The Life, a collection of Todd Terry tracks. That led to a deal with Mercury Records allowing him to work with his favourite singers and performers.

The first release, Keep On Jumpin’, featuring Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown, became a top 10 UK hit and the follow-up, Somethin’ Goin’ On was a top five UK hit.

Since then Todd has worked with the likes of Annie Lennox, George Michael and Bjork as a remix artist.

In 1995, his remix for Everything But The Girl’s Missing became a worldwide smash, giving the British duo their first hit.

He then rode the charts with mixes for Garbage, The Cardigans, Jamiroquai and The Lightning Seeds.

Josh, from Stockton Heath, and James, a Great Sankey resident, started coming up with the idea for a house night at Parr Hall after meeting up with Todd at Cafe Mambo in Ibiza. The duo will also be performing on the night alongside other Warrington DJs before Todd’s headline set.

James, 31, said: “Josh has been working in the music industry as a touring DJ and music producer for the past five years. He recently started his record label Origins where he released a collaboration track with Todd.

“The label’s ethos is showing respect for the roots of house music and Todd is a key part of its history. I’ve run the house music night Giraffe for more than three years now in the north and last summer I took it to Eden in Ibiza.

“We’ve had some of the worlds best DJs there and brought them to Warrington in the past.

“With Josh and I both being from Warrington the chance to promote a show at a historical venue such as the Parr Hall is a great opportunity for us, especially to bring a true pioneer of house music to our town.”

Josh, a former Penketh High School student, added: “Todd is a key part of house music’s history. In the 90s he helped the music cross over from the underground scene to the mainstream as a result of his chart success.

“The UK especially really embraced his style and it’s still just as relevant today as it was 20 years ago.”

Tickets are on sale at 9am on Friday. They cost £15 with some early bird tickets available at £13. A limited number of tickets will be available at pyramidparrhall.com with the majority on skiddle.com
