WHEN best friends Jack Pennington, Rob Leach and Chris Smith started making music together they just saw it as a good excuse to hang out.

But those jamming sessions quickly grew into something more when drummer Dan Brown and singer Becky Roberts joined them in 2013.

Warrington hard rock band One Last Run was formed and in just two years the quintet have gone on to work with Innersound Studios who have produced music for the likes of Asking Alexandria and Glamour of the Kill.

Now the band are preparing to headline Live@Parr Hall on Friday as part of Warrington Festival after launching their breakthrough single, Tell Me.

Bassist Chris said: "Now that we’ve released the new single we’re trying to build more of a reputation as a headline band.

"That's why we're playing at the Parr Hall and we've got a tour in October.

"I’m a bit nervous because of the size of the venue but at the same time I’m excited. We’re in good company as there are plenty of bands on with us."

Chris told Weekend that recording Tell Me at Innersound Studios in York has been his highlight so far.

The former Great Sankey High School pupil added: "I think since releasing this single we’ve shown people how seriously we’re taking the band.

"The guys who produced the song for us have produced some of the biggest bands in the country.

"They’re doing our album at the moment and we’re their last project before they move to Arizona and start working with Columbia Records.

"So they’re definitely going places and it’s been great working with them.

"The first time I heard the song was when we laid down demo guitars.

"We cut a lot of the rubbish out that we didn’t need in the song – we went off on a bit of a tangent at first.

"But when we cut that out and put some new guitar parts in it sounded so much brighter and I remember thinking: 'Wow'.

"Then when we got it back at the end and I heard the vocals and all of it coming together, I remember I got shivers."

Chris started to learn the bass when he was 14 and the first song he learnt was I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness.

The 23-year-old has played in various bands but his first gig with One Last Run, who have been compared to Halestorm and Alter Bridge, was at The Engine Rooms in Skelmersdale.

Chris said: "I’ve got a musical family. A lot of my family members also play in bands.

"When I picked up a bass guitar something seemed to click and I couldn’t stop playing it then. I just really enjoyed it and kept going from there.

"It’s good that I can be part of something that makes people so excited so that’s a big motivation for me at the moment. It’s something I can be proud of."
