A STRING quartet who are BBC Radio 3 regulars and have performed all over the world are coming to Walton Hall.

The Zelkova Quartet formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2010.

In just five years they have gone on to complete the International Artist Diploma in Chamber Music, the institution's most advanced level of study in performance.

They were also accepted for the St John's Smith Square Young Artists Programme, which helps soloists and ensembles pursue a career as professional musicians.

The Zelkova Quartet's concert is being hosted by Friends of Walton Hall Music on September 30.

Their recent performances include recitals at Bridgewater Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St John's Smith Square and even Moscow's Rachmaninov Hall.

The quartet have also hit the airwaves on BBC Radio 3 numerous times.

This includes performances with the Royal Philharmonic Society at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, a performance as part of the BBC Proms Plus Portrait series and a live broadcast on the 'In Tune' programme.

They were also one of only four quartets selected internationally to take part in the Trondheim International String Quartet Academy in 2012 and attended the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme in 2013.

The Zelkova Quartet have also had competition success with the Elias Fawcett Trust Prize for Outstanding Chamber Ensemble at the 2014 Royal Overseas League Competition.

More recently, the quartet was invited to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the Royal Overseas League’s programme of events at the festival.

Norman Cutter, from Friends of Walton Hall Music, said: "This will be another superb concert by a quartet of musicians who are becoming more accomplished and impressive each time they are heard."
