PREPARE for another dose of quirky humour with Flight of the Conchords set to return on the big screen.

The multi award-winning comedy about New Zealand's 'fourth most popular guitar-based, digi-bongo, acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo' only ran for two series despite becoming a cult hit.

So fans have been thrilled to hear that it is 'business time' once again for duo Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie.

Jermaine has revealed in interviews that the pair are in the early stages of writing a movie.

For those new to Flight of the Conchords, the show starred Jemaine and Bret playing fictionalised versions of themselves.

The sitcom, which began life as a Sony Radio Academy Award-winning BBC Radio 2 series, came to an abrupt end in 2009 after just two series.

But Jermaine and Bret – also known as Hiphopopotamus and Rhymenoceros – continue to tour as a two-man band.

So it will be great to see their continuing musical misadventures trying to make it in New York.

The joy of Flight of the Conchords mostly comes from the inspired, surreal songs about everything from robots to their desire to seduce all the 'ladies of the world'.

But the show was also known for its offbeat humour especially thanks to the supporting cast including hapless but lovable manager Murray (Rhys Darby), fan and wannabe groupie Mel (Kristen Schaal) and deluded friend and pawn shop worker Dave.

Not that Jermaine and Bret have not been busy since Flight of the Conchords.

Bret was music supervisor for the two recent Muppet films, The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the song Man or Muppet.

He also had a small role in The Hobbit as Lindir.

Jermaine, meanwhile, starred in Flight of the Conchords collaborator Taika Waititi's What We Do In The Shadows and is currently working on Steven Spielberg's big-screen adaptation of Roald Dahl's BFG.

Youngsters might know him as the voice of evil cockatoo Nigel in the Rio films.

The New Zealand musical comedy duo have also revealed they are planning a reunion tour next year. Fingers crossed they make it over to the UK.
