YOU are always sure of a weekend of good music at Chester Folk Festival with plenty of discoveries along the way.

The annual event is held in various locations in Kelsall with the focal point being a main stage marquee.

As well as performances there was the chance to meet some of the artists, attend talks and go to a ceilidh in the evening.

The highlight was North East musician Bob Fox, who played the role of the Songman in the West End production of War Horse.

His intricate guitar work was impressive and he got everyone singing along.

But whether you are a fan of folk music or not, the musical showcase is certainly worth a visit for the atmosphere alone.

Every aspect of the festival is friendly, relaxed and laid back.

It is the kind of community event where around every corner you tend to bump into a morris dancer and can buy homemade scones to help raise funds for a village church.

The popular Lord Binning pub is also on site with 'fringe' folk performances in the beer tent.

Our aim was to introduce our 20 month old to folk.

But he was more interested in the impressive children's play park opposite the marquee where there was a circus skills workshop and a man making bubbles with a big net that all the kids were chasing.

Chester Folk Festival focuses on traditional music so you are unlikely to see the likes of Bellowhead there but the quality of the artists is very high.
