David Green runs independent record label, Playing With Sound, and Ameritz, which helps music get onto streaming services, from Wilderspool Park. In his column for Weekend he talks about his latest signings and why 2017 is set to be a ‘monumental’ year for music and technology

We have got 2017 off to a great start here at Playing With Sound and Ameritz.

One of our latest projects is working alongside a new tech house label called Static Music. We have 12 singles lined up for this year, as well as two albums.

French DJ and producer Matt Sassari releases his track, Jackson, with Static on February 2. Matt is originally from Marseille and is at forefront of the techno scene in France.

DJ and producer Carl Cox and electronic music artist Jon Rundell recently selected another track by Matt and Canadian artist D-Unity called Fired Up, for their latest compilation, Pure Intec 3.

On that same compilation is a track by one of our other new signings Saeed Younan.

Originally from Washington, he opened for Carl Cox on all his US tour dates during 2016. The track we are releasing with Saeed is called Give it All You Got, and will be out February 17.

‘Our own catalogue now hurtles towards one billion streams as the music produced from our home town, and from many places across the globe, is added and shared with the world’

Meanwhile, we are excited to share with you details about the first dance event at the Parr Hall on April 15.

Warrington promoter James Glover is teaming up with Giraffe Music to bring house DJ legends Stockton Heath’s own Josh Butler and Brooklyn icon Todd Terry to our town.

Grammy Award nominated DJ and producer Todd Terry has been engulfed in dance music since he first started listening to European dance music records while growing up in New York.

He now tours the world, and it is quite a catch for James and the team. Tickets are on sale now from the Parr Hall. Another label we run is called Outlands.

It’s an experimental/ambient music label with its feet firmly in the Brian Eno world of minimalism and the avant-garde.

This catalogue of music is really taking off on the modern digital platforms such as Spotify.

One of our featured artists is Warrington born music producer Paul Melling.

Paul has been around the Warrington music scene since the early 90s, and now builds his instrumental sonic landscapes from his home studio in Newton.

Streaming music is having an impact on the way people consume music today.

It’s no longer all about the ‘hit’ and more about selecting music that fits in with their everyday life.

Spotify is quickly adapting to this and has playlists that change throughout the day from ‘The Great British Breakfast’ playlist to ‘Evening Acoustic’.

We are seeing great success as our tracks are added to Spotify playlists, each time we release new products.

We released our last physical product in 2006 and have never looked back.

The modern networked world has meant we consume more music than ever before. The digital jukebox is now a real thing and Spotify and similar services continue to grow beyond 100 million subscribers a month.

Our own catalogue now hurtles towards one billion streams as the music produced from our home town, and from many places across the globe, is added and shared with the world.

It looks set to be a monumental year for music and technology.
