DIY art collective Womanstanley are inviting their Warrington supporters to one of their biggest exhibitions in Leeds.

The female-led group of artists will be exploring the notion of home under the housing crisis with their display, 'Muriel', at Assembly House Studios on Friday, November 11.

People in Warrington have already had a sneak preview of the work in progress at the Pyramid centre in Palmyra Square.

Now Womanstanley are providing a coach for their followers for the main event.

Former St Gregory's High School pupil Sophie New formed the group when she met Roxy Ball at Leeds College of Art.

She said: "It is very important to us that our events are accessible to our Warrington supporters. Without an audience to excite, enthuse and engage with we’re not complete.

"When we put events on locally we hope to bring outsiders to Warrington and in the same way when we are invited to exhibit further afield we want to take Warrington with us and show people what we’re made of.

"Without the town's support, we wouldn’t be where we are now and we are so grateful for the positive feedback and turnouts we have received so far.

"We thought coach travel to the exhibition would be a comfortable and affordable option for most people.

"And given the exhibition theme of ‘home’, we will be giving a percentage of the money we raise to the Warrington YMCA."

Exhibiting artists are Sophie, Roxy, Claire Hill, Beth Davenport, Hayley Reid, Kim Thackeray, Tilly Dagnall, Lucy Hurst, Enya Koster, Joseph Finegan, Louise Marsh, Caitlin Whitcroft, Carys Reilly-Whitehouse, Cara George, Laura Davis, Marley Reid and Juno Birch.

The opening night will also see music from Fran Bundey, Klaut and Danxia, a puppet show from Enya Koster and a pay-what-you-like buffet from the Real Junk Food Project.

Originally, Womanstanley was a female-only group with the name being a reference to a famous Hilda Ogden quote from Coronation Street.

When Hilda's husband Stanley asks what her lipstick tastes like she says: 'Woman, Stanley. Woman'.

Now there are more than 60 members, aged between 18 and 60-plus, of all backgrounds.

The coach is £10 and will leave the Pyramid centre at about 6pm on Friday, November 11, before returning at around 11.30pm. The exhibition continues on Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13.
