THE former chairman of UKIP Warrington could stand for a new party in next month's General Election.

Trevor Nicholls, who quit UKIP after resigning from his top post last year, has joined the Demos Direct Initiative Party (DDIP) – The Collective Thinking Party of Britain, which was formed in January this year.

He has also been named as the party's north west regional organiser.

Mr Nicholls said: "DDIP utilise website forums to discuss and formulate party structure, polices and future direction.

"All members have access to the web forums in order to forward ideas arrived at by consensus as we believe many different opinions and debate make for good common sense polices.

"Branches are in the process of construction throughout the UK – the response has been very positive and membership is growing."

Mr Nicholls won 7,757 votes after standing for UKIP in Warrington North in the 2015 General Election.

He confirmed DDIP is 'in discussions' over candidates for the June 8 election.

But he said if he does stand it will be in Warrington North.

Mr Nicholls is in the running for a seat on Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council.

The election for the Westbrook ward position takes place on May 18.
