FIREFIGHTERS are warning drivers to take extra care after four people were injured in separate accidents in Antrobus and Marston on Friday and Saturday.
A motorist had a lucky escape on Friday when his car careered off the road into a telegraph pole, flipped over and landed on its roof.
The incident occurred just after 8.10am when the saloon car left Meg Lane, close to the Antrobus Arms pub, and hit the pole before turning over.
Firemen from Northwich and neighbouring Stockton Heath attended the scene. They believe the driver may have lost control after sneezing.
A spokesman said: "The driver had left the road, hit the pole, which caused it to become dislodged, before the car landed on its roof.
"He was lucky to have just minor injuries, having hit something so solid with such impact. He managed to walk away from the crash.
"The telegraph cables snapped and will have to be repaired."
Paramedics treated the driver at the scene and he was later transferred to Warrington General Hospital with minor injuries.
On Saturday, three people - including an 80-year-old man - were injured when a Vauxhall Astra and a Mazda collided in Marston.
Firefighters were called to the junction of Ollershaw Lane and Northwich Road at 1.45pm. The 80-year-old was taken to Warrington General Hospital but was not thought to be seriously injured.
Watch manager Steve Burrage, from Northwich Fire Station, said: "We are getting a high number of accidents in the Northwich area just now and would ask all drivers to take extra care."
There is always an increase in road accidents at this time of the year due to poor weather. One of the main risks drivers will be facing this month is fog.
Police offered this advice about coping with misty weather: "Watch out for fog, drive very slowly using dipped headlights, use fog-lights if visibility is seriously reduced, don't hang on to the tail-lights of the vehicle in front and don't speed up suddenly, even if fog seems to be clearing."
l Rush hour traffic in Delamere was brought to a standstill yesterday, Tuesday, following a two-vehicle crash.
The incident took place on the A54 Middlewich Road shortly after 7.20am when a yellow Nissan Micra and Mercedes Sprinter van collided outside Fishpool Inn Cottage.
Firefighters from Tarporley attended but there were no serious injuries.
A Mersey Regional Ambulance spokesman said: "Both drivers were assessed at the scene but refused medical treatment."
