Bears crash 5-2 to Newcastle

CONGLETON Town crashed out to their fifth defeat in a row on Saturday.

They went down 5-2 at third-placed Newcastle Town, Lennon scoring four of the home side's goals.

Lennon is one of the league's leading scorers, and gave Newcastle the lead on 14 minutes.

He scored his second on 24 minutes, and Congleton were back in the match on the stroke of half-time.

The Bears produced a series of short passes in the box, which ended with McAllister slotting past the keeper.

Newcastle restored their two-goal cushion three minutes into the second half with a goal from Johnson.

Lennon scored again on 62 and 68 minutes to put the match beyond Congleton, who scored their second in the last minute.

Horrocks was brought down from behind in the box, and McAllister scored from the spot.

"We were in the game only briefly, and once they got in front we were struggling," said Congleton press officer Ken Mead.

"We didn't have the same firepower as them, and while they are on song at the moment we are out of tune."

Congleton are hoping to sign a midfielder this week, who is likely to feature in tomorrow's home league game against Atherton Collieries.

The Bears are also at home next Tuesday, to Barnton in the Mid Cheshire Senior Cup.
