Congestion set to rise

CONGESTION will grow, fuelled by the town's economic growth, if nothing is done ease the problem, says a major borough council plan.

The draft transport plan for 2006 to 2011 says the planned retail parks, housing estates and business parks will add to the already chronic traffic difficulties.

In 10 years time, the town could have an extra 15,000 journeys per day - about 40 per cent of the current figure for town centre traffic.

And the new traffic will have a bigger impact than just its numbers.

Even small increases in car journeys lead to large increases in congestion.

The report warns of 'significant challenges ahead' and says tackling traffic congestion is the major transport priority for Warrington.
