I find the recent decision by Warrington Borough Council to stop emptying slightly open refuse bins bemusing. Yes, ok, I can understand the council's reasoning that it is primarily for health and safety reasons, but any additional insinuations that it is doing it to encourage people to recycle more are a joke and lack real credibility!

If the push towards us all recycling more had any real substance then why is the council effectively asking those of us who are fortunate enough to have access to motor vehicles to drive to the nearest recycling point? Do they not realise each and every householder that makes such a journey is polluting the environment a hell of a lot more than one bin wagon doing a bin round a week?

I'm sorry, but it does not wash. If the council is serious about recycling it would set up smaller and more numerous recycling points that communities could use within reasonable walking distance for most people!

Such an infrastructure should have been put in place before the new draconian collection measures were put in place and at such short notice!
