I AM disgusted at the petulant implementation of the new refuse collection guidelines which have been enforced.

I understand and sympathise with the need to encourage waste minimisation and to be mindful of health and safety issues for refuse collectors.

I am in fact a keen environmentalist and recycler.

I have major issues, however, with the fact that my bin, which was ajar less than one inch, was not collected.

The bin contained lightweight bulky polystyrene packing material, which is unrecyclable and takes up a lot of volume.

Leaving the bins full has created a health risk. The considerable heat has caused the bin to smell and I am very concerned about rats as we live near open fields.

I understand that the civic amenity site will accept this waste at no financial cost but what about the environmental cost?

How many additional road journeys are being made because of the pedantic adherence to this new policy? How much additional congestion and vehicle emissions?

The recycling opportunities for Warrington are terrible.
