I AM writing in response to a letter in last week's Guardian from J Butler from Woolston about mother and baby parking at Riverside Retail Park.

I also received a penalty notice recently for parking in a disabled bay.

I had a toddler with me and a baby, it was the hottest day so far at the time and I chose to park in the only shaded bit in the car park, a disabled one.

I was only trying to protect my children from the heat by trying to keep the car cool. I would not have parked where I did if it had been the only disabled spot available but there was not one taken, they were all free and there must be 100 or so disabled bays at Riverside.

I would not have put any disabled driver to any inconvenience by taking one of the last spots.

I was only about 20 minutes and returned to a parking ticket.

Still, there were no disabled drivers parked in any of the spots.

I appealed against the ticket and received a bog standard reply and my appeal was rejected.

I had asked the question why so many disabled bays and no parent and toddler ones but they didn't answer me.

Then I saw J Butler's letter and have appealed again.

What is the point of an appeal system if they do not take it seriously?

If J Butler reads this and is interested in taking this further, I am more than happy to do so.
