I REFER to the address to the Association of Chief Police Officers by Chief Superintendent Derek Barnett of the Cheshire Constabulary about the cuts to the budgets of police forces in the UK and his remarks that this will cause racial and social tensions to surface due to other cuts in benefits and public spending.

Stop bleating Mr Barnett, I did not hear you moaning when the previous Labour Government was throwing money at the police.

Yet you took the money and wasted it in Cheshire, on new police vehicles, new uniforms, construction of new custody suites, the creation of new posts.

Well Mr Barnett we in the private sector have had to suffer redundancies, budget cuts and efficiency savings for the past two years.

So welcome to the real world, where financial restraint is common in the workplace now.

Why should the police be immune from such conditions?

Mr Barnett you could save the taxpayer money by resigning, you have your 30 years service in now and this could save us £80,000 plus a year, so what about it? Do your bit for the country.
