THIS letter follows on from the Warrington Guardian’s ‘which shops do you miss the most?’ article (August 11).

It seems that in addition to the long list, including the old market, TJ Hughes, BHS, Woolworths, Warburtons, Debenhams, Virgin, Edwin Allen’s, Marks and Spencer, etc, we must shortly add another casualty.

Namely the Food Plus supermarket on Sankey Street near Golden Square Shopping Centre.

It seems to me, and many others, that the ‘people power’ which used to exist in Warrington has now become extinct.

In its place, we see a cluster of ‘fly by night’ concerns and an atmosphere of ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ prices, in times of hardship for many people.

Am I really the only Warrington resident to abhor the death of people power and the real Warrington?

TIM CLEWORTH
