I AM writing in reference to Mill Lane Pool in Stockton Heath (Warrington Guardian, July 21) which featured in the Looking Back section.

It was built by the boys who came back from the First World War.

It was beautifully built and tiled which, when it became a field, gave good drainage as the tiles were broken up.

Warrington Rugby Union used it as an extra pitch in the 1970s, and it later became Jubilee Field.

A family called Holmes lived at the mill which was by the bridge over the stream on Mill Lane.

Ivy and Jean Holmes were the daughters who lived there in the 1940s and 1950s.

The mole came along in the early 1970s and caused a lot of damage, churning up the field.

Now the drainage is not as good as it becomes soggy.
