I NOTED with interest your trip down memory lane with the Carlton Club in the 1970s.
This brings back memories of my student days in the art college on Museum Street.
The restoration is long overdue and very prestigious.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the lower half of Bridge Street and another of my student haunts – I am referring to the Packet House, opposite the restored edifice of the Academy building.
Both are listed buildings but you only have to cross the street to meet with a dilapidated ruin which used to be a vibrant public house and is now a dark shell.
The contrast is very stark.
How sad is that.
Double standards now exist in the Warrington of 2021 and civic pride seems to be so selective in its choice of preserving Warrington’s heritage.
