ALTHOUGH not totally convinced, there was a time that I was open to persuasion that the Western Link Road would be the right decision for our town (Warrington Guardian, February 26).

The traffic around Bridge Foot has been a constant problem.

The pandemic has changed everything.

There is less traffic on the road as a result of more people working from home.

The climate crisis is arguably a much bigger threat to us than Covid.

The amount of office space likely to become available should mean there can be no justification for any new homes being built on the green belt.

On top of the pandemic and the climate crisis, there is another reason why the Western Link Road should not go ahead.

That other reason is the reported £1.6billion debt Warrington Borough Council already has.

The picture is now clearer that this project is wrong on quite a few fronts.
