THE letter from Bob Timmis (Warrington Guardian, June 11) is both interesting and thought provoking.
The irresponsible actions of a yobbish minority cannot and must not be condoned.
Numerous statues and similar monuments have been erected to commemorate the lives and actions of persons who have left significant impressions upon our history and development of current society.
The simple reality is that we cannot re-write history.
Characters such as Winston Churchill, Oliver Cromwell and Guy Fawkes have all left their marks upon today’s society.
Nothing can nor will change that.
There is no valid reason to change anything.
It would be absolutely ludicrous to move Cromwell’s statue or rename streets such as Cromwell Avenue.
They are all part of our heritage and nothing can change that.
