I ATTENDED the funeral of ‘Big George’ Haywood having read Mike Parsons’ totally deserved tribute in last week’s edition (Warrington Guardian, June 4).
I had the privilege of playing both football and cricket with George at Eagle Sports in the early 1960s and just wanted to add he was also a fine cricketer with both Latchford and Padgate CC and Eagle Sports CC.
Indeed, he won the J E White cricket bat for the highest score of the season around that time having knocked 123 not out for Latchford and Padgate CC.
A great guy in every respect, RIP.
