I NOTE the plans for a new bridge to replace the Cantilever Bridge (Warrington Guardian, August 29).
Probably a good idea but would it not also be a good idea for Peel Holdings/Manchester Ship Canal Company to look after the bridges they already have?
We were waiting at the Stockton Heath swing bridge the other day and were shocked.
The state of the bridge as you drive over it is disgusting but when it opens for ships the state of the canal view of it is frightening.
The three swing bridges are in a disgusting condition and are an appalling first sight of Warrington.
They used to be referred to as the gateways of south Warrington.
Well, if my gate looked like that I would be ashamed.
