THIS week I received my council tax demand.
I was appalled to see that 63 pence out of every £1 the council collect is spent on social care and vulnerable young people.
My mother died last year from vascular dementia.
In the last three years of her life she received no council care. She had to pay for her own carers and her palatine care during her last 10 months of her life in a private care home. That alone cost £40,000.
Plus the previous two years of carers visiting her at home.
The system has to change. People cannot expect the general public to pay for their support. They are going to have to fund their own care through private insurance.
