I KEEP on saying that they should move the cenotaph to Marshalls Gardens where it would be more accessible to the passing public to call and pay their respects (Warrington Guardian, January 17).

The access to where it is at present has been shut off by the unwarranted bridge footpath crossing closure which makes it an extremely difficult and hazardous detour to get there.

One reply was that it should stay there ‘because it was put there for a reason’.

Well at that time it was easily accessible before the new Mersey bridge was built (during which time the Cenotaph had the right hand side cut down to accommodate the new crossing, which went unnoticed by most people).

The Marshall Gardens area could incorporate the cenotaph into a landscaped area with benches where people could sit and relax – but as usual our council thinks it knows best.
