JUST over a week ago my wife and I took a ride to Liverpool. What an amazing place it has turned out to be.

While we were there we visited the waterfront and the thing that jumped out at me was Camel Laird shipyard.

For decades it has bumped along just managing to keep the gates open but what do you see now? Two huge Royal Navy supply vessels undergoing refits and the newly launched Arctic research vessel Sir David Attenborough.

The yard is full – so much for ship building on the Mersey being dead in the water.

While talking about ship building in the UK we should not forget the two huge aircraft carriers that we have built and the fleet of Naval ships under construction by British companies for the Royal Australian Navy.

There is also the the fleet of coastal protection vessels coming into service after we leave the EU to protect our fishing grounds for our own trawlermen who have suffered beyond belief under the crazy EU fishing policy that restricted their catches while allowing other EU vessels to plunder the sea bed.

Now I must agree the Airbus consortium is a bit of a worry but why should we worry? Without the wings and the Rolls Royce engines, all they have is a aluminium cigar going nowhere.

Is it not beyond our capabilities to build the rest and enter the aviation world?

We are now one of the leading brains in space industry building and launching our version of sat nav technology just in case the unelected bureaucrats pull the plug when we leave.

It seems the sticking point in the negotiations is the Irish border. The thing the remoaners keep harping on about is queues at Dover. But it doesn’t bother the Americans and Canada on their border.

If it’s such a big deal for Ireland why don’t they start a ferry service from Dublin to the EU?

Why are we running down our leaders while they are trying their best to strike a generous deal for our withdrawal from the EU?

They need us more than we need them.

Frank Field MP resigned the Labour whip in protest at Jeremy Corbyn’s stand on Brexit and bullying in his local party. Frank is one of the most respected MPs ever to enter the halls of Westminster.

Why?

Because he listens to his voters and he respects the will of the people.
